When the Darkness Swallowed the Sun

Closeted, alcoholic journalist Dan Young flees to Thailand after killing a teenager in a drink-driving incident. The 29-year-old Londoner reinvents himself in Bangkok, finding work at the local English-language rag and gets a reporting gig following two brutal backpacker murders on a paradise island. It morphs into Dan’s obsession after he sees the bloody crime scene photos, vowing to seek justice, redemption of a sort. Compelled to visit the crimson-stained white sands, he meets young Thai twentysomething Chalerm lurking in the beach’s night-time shadows, all disarming smiles, easy charm and shark-like eyes. The lad slips seamlessly into Dan’s life, stealing him away from wife Som. Instead of scarpering like usual, he finally runs towards the darkness to find the truth, himself, island dream descending into a nightmare.
